The transformation of Margaret Court Arena created a year-round entertainment venue, future proofing the home of the Australian Open.

Aurecon teams mastered the engineering challenges of the stadium’s crowning feature, the sleek operable roof. Being able to open or close in under five minutes, the roof houses an arena suitable for tennis, basketball, netball and concert events. It incorporates large overhangs to provide sun-shading for patrons and provides the capacity to hang theatrical equipment for indoor concerts.

The complexities of building over an existing structure, while enabling the ongoing operation of the adjoining Rod Laver Arena, matched the engineering challenges of the roof. Aurecon provided a range of practical construction solutions.
