Critical transport infrastructure in Brisbane was devastated when the river flooded in January 2011. Inspired by the challenge to design new ferry terminals that would be resilient to future flood events and accessible to all, Aurecon and Cox Architecture’s unique design is a bold concept and a significant shift away from previous design convention in aesthetics and accessibility.

Featuring natural disaster resilience that allows operations to return shortly after flooding and a world-first accessibility compliant gangway in a significant tidal context, the result is modern and elegant terminals that are synonymous with Brisbane’s forward-looking attitude to public transport and an iconic feature of the river city.
