Marketed as Brisbane’s ultimate business environment, 480 Queen Street is a 34-storey premium grade office building in the CBD’s golden triangle.
The unusual use of a parallel beam steel floor system, a first for a building of this size in Brisbane, made for an interesting challenge. Of the site boundaries, two are existing high-rise buildings and two busy CBD streets. The site required deep excavation, up to 16 metres, for which the team used a combination of bored piers and shotcrete walls, supported by both passive and active anchors.
Construction was accelerated by: a ‘jump start’ approach that minimised on-site activities and facilitated the simultaneous construction of various floors; the use of steel as the construction material of choice.
